Why so many couples can’t get married at home
You found the right person — and then bureaucracy decides you can’t marry. We hear these stories every day:
Impossible document requirements
Marrying a foreign partner in many countries means certificates of no impediment, legalized birth certificates and sworn translations — papers that can take a year, or simply can’t be obtained at all.
No civil marriage at home
In Israel, Lebanon, Iran and several other countries, civil marriage doesn’t exist. Interfaith couples and non-religious couples have no legal path to marriage at home.
The visa wall
“Just marry in Denmark” used to be the trick — but your partner needs a Schengen visa first. For many nationalities, that alone is months of struggle with an uncertain outcome.
Months of waiting, life on hold
Appointments, fees, rejections, re-submissions. While the paperwork drags on, your life together — visas, family reunification, simply being married — stays blocked.
Georgia solves this.
Georgia performs civil marriages for foreigners of every nationality and every faith — no residency, no document marathon, visa-free entry for citizens of 90+ countries and a simple e-visa for most others. Two passports, two days, one marriage certificate that authorities around the world accept.
Georgia vs. marrying at home

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about marrying in Georgia as a foreigner.
Is a marriage from Georgia legally recognized in my country?
Yes. Georgia issues an official marriage certificate, and with the Hague apostille it is recognized in the 120+ member states of the Apostille Convention — including the EU, UK, USA, India, Israel and most other countries. We provide the apostille and certified translations, and in the free pre-check we explain how registration works in your specific home country.
Which documents do we really need?
Valid passports — that’s all, for most couples. If one of you was married before, the final divorce decree (or a death certificate of a former spouse) is also required. Exactly this is what we verify in the free document pre-check, so there are no surprises on site.
How fast can we get married?
With the Express package your civil ceremony takes place within about 48 hours of arrival; the apostilled certificate follows immediately after. With Standard you should plan roughly a week in Tbilisi.
Do we need a visa for Georgia?
Citizens of 90+ countries — including the EU, UK, Israel, the UAE, Turkey and Ukraine — enter Georgia visa-free for up to a year. Citizens of many other countries, for example India or the Philippines, can apply online for a straightforward e-visa. We flag the right path for both of you in the pre-check.
Do you really take no prepayment?
Really. No deposit, no advance payment. You pay in Tbilisi after your ceremony, by cash or card. And if it turns out your marriage cannot legally take place, you owe us nothing — that’s the point of the free pre-check.
Can interfaith or non-religious couples marry in Georgia?
Yes. Georgian civil marriage is purely secular: your religions play no role, no religious ceremony is involved, and couples of different faiths — or none — marry without restrictions. This is exactly why many couples from Israel, Iran, Lebanon and the Gulf states choose Georgia.
Can same-sex couples marry in Georgia?
Unfortunately no. Georgian law currently recognizes civil marriage only between a man and a woman. We’re sorry not to be able to help here and recommend looking at countries such as Denmark or Portugal for same-sex marriage.
Can we combine the wedding with a honeymoon?
Absolutely — most of our couples do. Tbilisi’s old town, the Caucasus mountains and Georgian wine country make a spectacular honeymoon. We’re happy to share recommendations once the paperwork is done.
