How to Get Married in Georgia as a Foreigner — The Complete 2026 Guide

Georgia has quietly become one of the easiest places in the world for international couples to get legally married. No residency requirement, no certificate of no impediment, no months of paperwork — for most couples, two valid passports are enough. Here is how the process actually works in 2026.

Why Georgia?

Most countries make international marriages hard. Marrying a foreign partner in Germany, for example, requires a certificate of no impediment and legalized birth certificates; in Israel, civil marriage does not exist at all; in many Gulf states, interfaith couples have no path to a civil ceremony. Georgia takes the opposite approach:

1. Valid passports for both partners.

The process, step by step

What the apostille does not do is register your marriage at home automatically.
